UFC 225: LIVE Stream
UFC 225 is live tonight and it features what was supposed to be a title fight and what is almost a title fight. Aside from that weirdness, there is a slew of intriguing match-ups including legends of the sports and hot prospects. The event goes down at the United Center in Chicago, IL.
Headlining the PPV is Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero in a non-title fight, thanks to Romero’s failure on the scales. The fight is a rematch from UFC 213, where Whittaker bested Romero over five rounds to lift the interim belt. Can the Aussie/Kiwi repeat that feat and continue to prove he’s the best in the division or will the Cuban Olympian win and cause all kinds of headaches?
In the co-main event there is another title on the line, though it’s a little less shiny. With UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley inactive, former lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjosmeets the unpopular Colby Covington for an interim 170 lb title.
The remainder of the PPV sees Holly Holm take on newcomer Megan Anderson in the women’s featherweight division, Andrei Arlovski looking to halt the heavyweight hype train behind Tai Tuivasa, and former WWE star CM Punk look for his first win versus Mike Jackson at welterweight.
The FS1 prelims begin at 8:00PM ET and that’s headlined by another clash that pits a heavyweight legend against a rising star. In this case it’s Alistair Overeem taking on Curtis Blaydes. Also on the prelims there’s Claudia Gadelha against Carla Esparza at strawweight,Ricardo Lamas versus Mirsad Bektic at featherweight, and Rashad Coulter opposite Chris de la Rocha at heavyweight.
The UFC Fight Pass Prelims, which start at 6:15PM ET, have managed to retain their four scheduled fights. The featured early prelim sees former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans take on Anthony Smith. Before that there’s a flyweight fight with title implications, withJoseph Benavidez facing Sergio Pettis. Rounding out the event is Clay Guida vs. Charles Oliveira (lightweight) and Mike Santiago vs. Dan Ige (featherweight).
